The brief descriptions below are designed to familiarize you to get to know our friendly staff.
Dr. Tom Drummond has been practicing general and cosmetic dentistry since 1997. Every year since then he has been learning about new things in dentistry and is very excited to be a part of today's Modern Dentistry. During the last 10 years, he has worked in Fairfax and has the opportunity to work with many types of dentists in a variety of settings. One of his principal influences came from his dad, a dentist in Fairfax for over 35 years. Tom worked with his dad for over 15 years doing a variety of things but mainly as a young dentist.
Tom currently enjoys tackling the difficult cases in the office but at the same time will make it his duty to personally see all new patients who come in for treatment. He will see all patients -the old, the young, and everything in between -and will promise a non-nonsense approach to helping people get what they need and what they desire out of today's modern dental offerings.
He began dental school in 1993 at the University of Pennsylvania graduating with top honors in 1997. At school, his main interests were dental implants and oral surgery. His mentor during the time had emphasized to Dr. Tom to view the oral cavity as a window to the medical condition of the patient. This latter interest has become increasingly more important in the recent years as health researchers have shown how closely related the oral condition and the health condition really are.
In 1997 he continued his education at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in the Nation's Capital. Here Dr. Tom gained valuable experience in treating patients who are medically compromised. Valuable experiences were gained about the oral condition as a reflection of the entire health of an individual. Also, valuable people were met at the VA - one being a dentist who later became his wife and partner at work.
Since 1998, Dr. Tom has worked in Fairfax, VA. He has membership in the Northern Virginia Dental Society, The Virginia Dental Society, The American Academy of General Dentistry, and The American Dental Association. He has been recognized favorably by Consumer's Checkbook magazine every year since 1998.
Outside the office he enjoys reading, outdoor activity, deep space travel, food, going on vacations, and humor. But most importantly, he enjoys his time with the ladies in his life - three daughters and his wife. Some day he might play golf with the guys but can't seem to squeeze it in as there doesn't seem to be much time.
Dr. Tanya has been practicing cosmetic and family dentistry since she graduated in 1997. She is originally from Chicago, the second of five children from a long line of physicians. She graduated from Marquette University with a major in French. She took a year off to work for an orthodontist in the Chicago area. After being certain that dentistry is the field she wanted to pursue, she went on to achieve her doctor of dental surgery degree from Marquette University School of Dentistry.
After dental school, she decided to continue her education at a residency program and was accepted at her first choice, The VA Medical Center in Washington DC. She was there for one year and learned a lot about dentistry, but also an appreciation for the human body as a whole. She did rotations in many areas of the hospital, and learned about the different aspects of care. This is where she met her husband, Tom, whom she currently practices with. After finishing her residency, she was an associate for 6 years before solely joining her husband and his father in their busy practice.
Dr. Tanya is a member of the Northern Virginia Dental Society, Virginia Dental Association and American Dental Association. She continues to take courses in all aspects of dentistry to keep up with the current trends and changes in the field. She was recognized as one of the best dentists voted in "Best for Families" in 2003.
Dr. Tanya has a special talent in working with kids. Along with treating adults, she treats all the children in the practice and is very cautious and attentive to their needs. It is her utmost responsibility to make sure they have a positive, comfortable experience at her office.
Dr. Tanya currently resides in Fairfax, VA with her husband of 8 years and their three daughters. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, exercising, reading, sewing/stitching and cooking.
